PRESIDENT'S - NOTE

Message from Dr. Shobha Prakash, President of PHANA:

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

I am honored to assume the role of President of the Private Hospitals and Nursing Homes Association (PHANA). As I begin this journey, I earnestly seek your unwavering support and collaboration. Together, we can strengthen PHANA and address the pressing challenges facing our fraternity.

The medical community today stands fragmented, a vulnerability exploited by insurance companies to undermine our collective interests. One urgent issue is the implementation of fair insurance tariffs for cashless procedures. Despite PHANA dedicating over 100 hours to formulate a standardized rate list, many hospitals continue to bypass these guidelines. This disunity weakens our position and hinders our ability to advocate effectively.

Rest assured, PHANA is actively engaging with insurance providers, health ministry officials, and policymakers to resolve these concerns. However, progress demands unity. Just as industries thrive on solidarity, we too must stand as one to tackle challenges—be it insurance tariffs, FIRE NOCs, trade licenses, or minimum wage policies.

I am privileged to build upon the legacy of our esteemed past presidents—Dr. Narendra Swamy, Dr. Madan Gaekwad, Dr. Ravindra, Dr. Prasanna, and Dr. Yatheesh—who established PHANA as a respected voice recognized by the Government of Karnataka (GOK). Their efforts secured our representation in critical forums like the KPME Grievance Committee. Now, it is our responsibility to elevate PHANA to greater heights.

To drive this mission, I am proud to have a dynamic team, including our Secretary, Dr. Santosh Saklecha, whose energy and vision will be invaluable. PHANA’s committees are open to all members—whether you hold an official position or not. I urge each of you to contribute your expertise. Visit our KMC office monthly, share suggestions with our staff, or participate in our newsletter. This is your association, and every voice matters.

Let us move forward with resolve and unity. Only together can we safeguard our profession’s integrity and ensure a sustainable future for private healthcare.

With gratitude and determination,

Dr. Shobha Prakash
President, PHANA
